Celebrant Marc Lemezma: Runner-Up in the Debbie Brooke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Celebrancy

I’m deeply honoured to share that I have been recognised as the Runner-Up in the Debbie Brooke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Celebrancy at the 2025 AOIC Celebrant Awards. This award, presented by the Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC), celebrates not only excellence as a funeral celebrant but also the broader ways I support families and enrich the profession.

Beyond Traditional Celebrancy

This recognition goes beyond delivering excellent ceremonies. It reflects the work I do to support families through grief, both online and in person, offering guidance, comfort, and practical insights to help people navigate the most difficult moments. My original poetry, created to honour and celebrate lives, has become a meaningful part of the services I lead, helping people connect with their emotions in a personal and reflective way.

It also recognises my commitment to forward-thinking, creative funerals. Whether in traditional venues such as crematoria or in unique settings chosen by the family, I aim to ensure every ceremony is personal, memorable, and truly individual. This award celebrates innovation, empathy, and the willingness to explore new ways of supporting families.

A Personal Journey

My path to celebrancy was shaped profoundly by personal loss. In 2020, I delivered the eulogy at my son Josh’s funeral. That experience inspired me to take formal celebrant training and dedicate myself to helping families create meaningful, personalised celebrations of life. Since then, I have had the privilege of guiding hundreds of families through ceremonies that reflect their loved ones’ personalities, passions, and stories.

Community and Support

Being part of the AOIC has been invaluable. The association’s commitment to professional standards, community, and development aligns perfectly with my own values. This award is not just a personal honour; it reflects the collective spirit of support, collaboration, and dedication within the celebrant community.

Looking Forward

I am grateful for this recognition. It inspires me to continue exploring new ways to serve families, innovate in celebrancy, and offer creative, compassionate guidance to those navigating grief. Thank you to the AOIC for this award, and to all the families who have trusted me with the honour of celebrating their loved ones.
